Yesterday I tried off-and-on “all day” to upload photos but to no avail! Still no luck today. Please bear with me while I learn the ropes of navigating this boat!
While I'm waiting for an answer from TypePad to my “trouble request" I’ll tell you more about what has led me to begin a personal journey of artful expression.
I’d never been interested in arts and crafts until I got acquainted a few years ago
with a woman who came to work where I was employed. She was a Stampin’Up! demonstrator and invited me to one of her home gatherings to “play”. It was fun and I soon had my share of stamps, papers, and inks! Shortly afterwards I was diagnosed with severe carpal tunnel and holding/folding/cutting was too painful. For the next two years (surgeries and rehabs) I was on disability from work and my supplies were left unused.
After recovering I never really got back to making many cards. By now my interests were leaning toward the mixed media art I was seeing in the magazines and online. I took several classes looking for one format that “talked to me” . . . articulated paper dolls, altered books, mini journals, encaustic painting, and more.
Last June, while searching mixed media on Amazon, I found the book “Collage Couture: Techniques for Creating Fashionable Art” by Julie Nutting. After viewing the inside pages I just had to own the book. When it came I couldn’t put it down! I searched to find if she had a blog – she did! (http://julienuttingdesigns.blogspot.com/) Her blog listed a nearby scrapbook store that was offering a class on collage taught by Julie herself the following month . . . I got the last available seat. Talk about the stars aligning. I didn’t realize it at the time but that class was about to impact me like no other.
As soon as I can upload photos I will show you that first collage canvas made in her class . . . not one of Julie’s signature fashion dolls . . . but a “fashionable” mermaid!
